Allana Verde has released the video for her new track, 'Bad Side'.
The track displays Allana's unique flavour and ability to connect whilst making awesome music that makes you want to put it on repeat. Flashes of 80’s pop merge with R&B classics as they sit on an undercurrent of fresh synths and current styles to draw your ear straight in to the record.
It's the first of the 4-track collection, which is an honest, pain-riddled account of the end, and aftermath, of a tumultuous relationship. The records are set to take the listener on a journey, which documents everything from the heartbreak through to regaining personal confidence and empowerment.
Previous treasures include her Neo Nostalgia E.P, a collection of three reimagined favourites from the 80s and 90s, which was followed by ‘Warning’, both gaining her notable attention last year from the likes Trevor Nelson and DJ Target, as well as tastemaker sites, Complex, The Fader and i-D.
Allana was and raised by her mother, regularly travelling back and forth between the UK and Jersey City in the United States. A musical child, her talent for dancing became apparent when she was four. Upon discovering Allana's gift, her mother enrolled her into a number of dance schools - one of them being the prestigious Sylvia Young Performing Arts School. Through dancing, Allana found her love for singing. Growing up, she performed all over London - her childhood memories mainly involve auditions and performances, 'I would sit in class at school, rehearsing my songs in my head and never really paying attention; just counting down the hours until I could perform’.
Allana's varied singing styles allow her to portray characters and express emotions to awe-inspiring effect. She has a penchant for 90s R&B and while it inspires her songs, she leaves plenty of room to add her unique flavour. Allana is inspired by her own experiences and the voices of established vocalists like Laura Mvula, Amy Winehouse and Elle Varner, not to mention relative newcomers Alessia Cara, Tori Kelly and Kehlani. Allana’s debut release ‘Shades’ had its video premiered online by style bible i-D, and received radio support from legendary R&B DJ Trevor Nelson among others. It was added to the BBC Radio 1Xtra playlist via the BBC Introducing scheme, which helped to conclude a very progressive 2015 for Allana.
With the online world already buzzing about her 2016 covers EP Neo Nostalgia, that year also saw Allana garner more support from DJs like Sian Anderson and Jamz Supernova, and platforms like GRM Daily, Hot 97, USA Today and TooBluntTV. These were direct reactions to the mighty ‘Warning’, the DaVinChe-produced R&B version of the classic Biggie banger that Allana really stamped her identity on. Subsequent collaborations and guest spots on albums took Allana away from creating solo material for some time, but she completed Broken Record EP at the beginning of 2017.
